We are extremely pleased to share the completed sculpture of Colonel John Neilson, unveiled on July 9th, 2017!

Revolutionary monument comes to life, 241 years later

“On July 9, 1776, Col. John Neilson stood on a table in front of the White Hall Tavern. From his makeshift stage, Neilson read aloud the Declaration of Independence…On Sunday [ July 9th, 2017], the 241st anniversary of that reading, the NBPS dedicated their inaugural commission — a depiction of that moment in history. “The Third Reading of the Declaration of Independence” stands at Monument Square on the corner of George Street and Livingston Avenue — just around the corner from the spot on Neilson and Albany streets where it happened.” (Cheryl Makin,
